The Kansas City Chiefs’ unbeaten run finally came to an end against the New England Patriots, and so did Patrick Mahomes’. The young Chiefs quarterback lost his first career start after winning his first six.

Mahomes was particularly poor in the first half when he threw two interceptions, which were a big reason why the Chiefs fell down a 15-point hole at halftime. And despite a valiant comeback attempt in the second half, they came up just short.

After the game, Mahomes admitted he just couldn’t afford to make those types of mistakes against a top opponent like the Pats.

“I missed some throws,” Mahomes said per Adam Teicher of ESPN. “That happens in this league. But whenever you're playing good football teams, you can't miss those throws. We left some points out there.”

But despite the miscues that led to his first defeat as a starter, Mahomes realizes that he has to continue playing aggressively and utilize the many offensive weapons he has at his disposal.

“When you have the guys I have on this team with the weapons that I have,” Mahomes said, “I have to keep slinging it.”

As Mahomes and the Chiefs showed in the second half, their offense is more than good enough to compete with the very best teams in the league like the Patriots.

Although they fell just short against New England, they should win a lot more games this season if Mahomes can keep their attack playing as potently as it has been through the first six weeks.
