Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a very scary knee injury during the second quarter of his team's win over the Denver Broncos on Thursday night, dislocating his right patellar.

Not long afterward, Mahomes took to Twitter to share some positive news:

Mahomes will undergo an MRI on Friday to determine the extent of the damage, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Schefter adds that the best-case scenario for Mahomes would likely be around three weeks out of action.

Mahomes suffered the injury on a quarterback sneak on fourth down. He completed 10 of his 11 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown before exiting, and Matt Moore relieved him to go 10-for-19 with 117 yards and a score.

The Chiefs were able to come away with a 30-6 victory to improve to 5-2 on the season, but obviously, Mahomes' injury cast a dark cloud over what should have been a fun night in Kansas City.

Through seven games this year, Mahomes has thrown for 2,180 yards, 15 touchdowns and one interception while completing 65.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 113.1.

Mahomes, who played his collegiate football at Texas Tech, was originally selected by the Chiefs with the 10th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He spent his rookie campaign learning behind Alex Smith, but that ensuing offseason, Kansas City traded Smith to the Washington Redskins, clearing the way for Mahomes under center.

Mahomes proceeded to throw for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns while registering a passer rating of 113.8 last year, earning league MVP honors as a result.
