After a close call against the Giants on Monday night, the Kansas City Chiefs came away with a crucial win and got themselves back to .500 as they look to turn their season around and return to their winning ways. With a series of slip ups and a lack of cohesion on the offensive end, the Chiefs have looked like mere mortals this season. Especially with a few blown leads and close losses to teams they're usually able to beat handily. In this post, we'll be looking at our Chiefs Week 8 takeaways.

If one thing's true, it's that the Chiefs need to get their act together if they want to have any shot at making another Super Bowl run this season.

As they continue searching for ways to improve while avoiding a catastrophic year, we now discuss our two Chiefs Week 8 takeaways after barely defeating the Giants during Monday Night Football.

Chiefs Week 8 Takeaways Against Giants

The Chiefs have lost their mojo on offense

With a league high 19 turnovers through their first eight games of the season, things definitely haven't gone as smoothly for the Chiefs as they have in previous seasons. Patrick Mahomes hasn't been as efficient on offense and seems to be lacking the playmaking ability that made him the unanimous NFL MVP a few seasons ago. Not to mention he's been fumbling the ball a ton lately which is very uncharacteristic of him. Over the past few weeks Mahomes hasn't looked like his dominant self and the Chiefs offense hasn't had the same explosion.

If they want to win another division title and regain homefield advantage in the playoffs, then they need to wake up from their current slumber and draw up a new game plan because what's previously worked doesn't seem to be as effective anymore. In the hopes of getting back to where they once were, they Chiefs need to do all they can to get their mojo back on offense.

Kansas City needs a stronger performance from their defense

Even though the Chiefs have never boasted a top-tier defensive unit, they've always been good enough to get by and keep the Chiefs in the game long enough for their offense to come in and close out the game. In their past few games though, things seem to have gotten out of hand with a series of blown coverages at pivotal points during the game. This has proven to be very costly for them and has led to very avoidable losses.

Now that their offense has hit a bit of a road of block, Kansas City will need a much bigger contribution from the defensive side of the ball. Especially if they want to recapture the glory they've had from the past few seasons and make another historic run in this year's playoffs. Now that they've lost their way, the Chiefs are due for a strong defensive showing and need to develop some consistency on that end of the field if they want overcome their streaky play and turn things around before it's too late for them to right the ship and save their season.
