Doc Rivers officially signed his contract extension with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to Andrew Grief of the Los Angeles Times.

Rivers told reporters back in March that he was signing an extension with the Clippers, shooting down rumors that he wanted to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Clippers made the playoffs this season when no one thought they were going to make it. LA finished as the eighth seed. They took the Golden State Warriors in six games in the first round of the playoffs.

“As I’ve said before, I’ve never had a group where you wanted to, in the morning, you raced to the car, you raced to practice just because you love being around them,” Rivers said. “So for me, it was just a pleasure to coach them.”

It could be a big summer for the Clippers, who have cap space to sign star free agents. The franchise has been linked to Toronto Raptors star Kawhi Leonard, who becomes an unrestricted free agent and is from the California area.

This season was probably Rivers' best job as a coach. The Clippers had zero All-Stars on the roster and traded their best player in Tobias Harris at the February trade deadline.
