JaMychal Green will become a free agent after declining his $5 million player option with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Green, 30, was an effective role player in 67 appearances for the Clippers over the past two seasons, averaging 12.9 points and 11 rebounds per 36 minutes. The versatile 6'8 forward shot 39.7% from three-point range on 3.7 attempts per game in L.A.

Los Angeles can re-sign Green, but it will limit their flexibility going forward.

“This is a big domino for the Clippers’ offseason. Makes it tougher to add a free agent with the nontaxpayer [mid-level exception] unless they’re willing to lose Green, who’s become a valuable 3-and-D big for them,” The Athletic's Clippers reporter Jovan Buha noted.

The Clippers own Green's early Bird rights, meaning they can exceed the cap to re-sign him.

Green began his career with the San Antonio Spurs before spending parts of five seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies. He was traded to L.A. along with Garrett Temple in exchange for Avery Bradley in Feb. 2019. The following July, he inked a two-year, $10 million deal with the Clippers that included the second-year opt-out clause.

Evidently, Green believes he's worth more than $5 million annually.

The Clippers' front office has will have some major front-court decisions to make when free agency opens on Friday. In addition to Green, fellow forwards Marcus Morris and 2019-20 Sixth Man of the Year winner Montrezl Harrell will also be hitting free agency.

Green took some heat for his play in the postseason after the Clippers flamed out in the second round and blew a 3-1 lead to the Denver Nuggets, though he Green cryptically deflected the blame.

For what it's worth, Green's Instagram has been fairly Clippers-heavy recently.
