Fans at Friday's Los Angeles Clippers game against the Denver Nuggets will receive a backpack with a special message from superstar small forward Kawhi Leonard:

Leonard and the non-profit community partner “Baby2Baby” announced at the start of the season a gift of one million backpacks intended to reduce stress on low-income families headed back to school across Southern California. Every single student in the Moreno Valley Unified, Inglewood Unified and Los Angeles Unified School Districts received a new backpack to start the school year. This was back in August.

Leonard was born and raised in California, so he has a special connection with kids from LA. The two-time Finals MVP signed a three-year deal with the Clippers this past summer after guiding the Toronto Raptors to the championship last season.

In his first season with the Clippers, Leonard is averaging 27.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists. He's shooting 46.3 percent from the field, 36.9 percent from beyond the arc and 90.2 percent from the free-throw line.

The Clippers are 39-19 on the season. They are in third place in the Western Conference standings. The Clippers are legitimate title contenders with Leonard and fellow All-Star and LA native Paul George leading the way.
