Lou Williams is dealing with a sore calf and has been ruled out on Friday night in the Los Angeles Clippers' road matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Williams, 33, will miss his first game of the 2019-20 season in Minneapolis. Along with the three-time Sixth Man of the Year winner, the Clippers will be without point guard Patrick Beverley and sophomore shooting guard Landry Shamet. Star forwards Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are available to play, however.

Despite Los Angeles' balanced scoring — they have four players averaging above 18 points per game — the loss of Williams is huge. The 6-foot-1 shooting guard is a staple of their bench unit, and should George or Leonard both be resting in a game, LouWill is the Clippers' preeminent scoring option on offense.

Williams is averaging 19.9 points and 6.2 assists per game this season, shooting 41.2 percent from the field, 34.9 percent from 3-point range and 84.2 percent from the free throw line in 26 contests.

The Clippers are in the middle of a six-game road trip and are playing the Ryan Saunders-coached Timberwolves team following a lopsided win in Canada over the Toronto Raptors. The victory extended their winning streak to three straight games on a night Leonard received his (second) championship ring in his return to Scotiabank Arena.

With Williams sidelined on Friday, the onus could be on George and Leonard to step up as stars and dominate the scoring load.
