No. 25 Clemson comes into play on Saturday struggling, to put it mildly, with a 2-2 record on the season. Boston College is 4-0 and coming off an overtime victory over Missouri. Clemson's offense scuffled again in the loss to NC State last week, a 2 OT game in which the Tigers managed just 21 points. The Tigers have struggled on that side of the ball all season long, while their defense has kept them from completely falling apart. Boston College opens their ACC schedule with a winnable, but still difficult road test at Clemson.

Why Boston College Could Cover The Spread
Clemson is 0-4 against the spread this season. Boston College, an undefeated 4-0 outright, getting 15 points is hard to pass up even on the road vs. a more talented roster. Despite all of the talent, the Tigers are averaging under 300 total yards of offense through four games. If it weren't for a big win over South Carolina State in Week 2, the numbers would look even worse for Clemson.
Boston College has had a solid, balanced offensive attack, while their defensive numbers are a bit deceiving at this point. They are allowing just 16 points per game for the season, but that number is weighted by the fact that they outscored Colgate and Temple a combined 79-3 in Weeks 1 and 3. Not to take anything away from the Eagles, but they will face a much bigger test in Clemson on Saturday, no matter how bad the Tigers have played and looked of late. Boston College is 3-1 vs. the spread this season.
Why Clemson Could Cover The Spread
Talent is the only reason to pick Clemson to cover a 15-point spread at this point. Even then, it seems like a reckless proposition given how poorly the Tigers have been on offense. If there is an avenue for the home team to cover this weekend, it starts with their defense. The Clemson defense has still been good this season, holding No. 2 Georgia without an offensive touchdown in Week 1. They allow just 12 points per game for the season. If D.J. Uiagalelei can play better, maybe the Clemson offense can open up and deliver a better performance than what has been on display so far in 2021 from the Tigers.

Until Clemson covers a spread this season, it is hard to back them at such a high number. Boston College has been solid this year and 15 points feels like too much even if Clemson has a talent edge at every position. The Eagles have played Clemson close before, and this may be another game that comes down to the wire. Dabo Swinney will need to find something as his team is quickly shooting down the polls, with any chance of a spot in the College Football Playoff likely already by the wayside. With their season goals already crushed, let's see if the Tigers have any fight left.
