Bowl season is underway and the Famous Idaho Bowl is next in line. It's time to continue our College Football odds series with a Kent State-Wyoming prediction and pick.
Kent State finished the season 7-6 which is just good enough to make a bowl game. They found their way to the MAC Football Championship game but lost to Northern Illinois 41-23. Quarterback Dustin Crum ended the year 78 yards shy of 3,000 yards and finished with 16 touchdown passes and six interceptions. Running back Marquez Cooper ended the year with over 1,000 rush yards and 11 touchdowns. Kent State averaged 32.6 points per game but allowed more at 35 points per game.
Wyoming hasn't been the same since Josh Allen turned pro, They average 23 points per game and allow just 22.5 points per game. They finished 6-6 in the Mountain West Conference and also just won enough games to participate in a bowl game. Wyoming didn't have much of a passing game at all. Quarterback Sean Chambers finished the year with 1,125 yards and six touchdowns to seven interceptions. Xazavian Valladay finished the year 16 rushing yards shy of 1,000 and five touchdowns.
Here is how FanDuel set the Kent State-Wyoming line for Tuesday night.

Why Kent State Could Cover The spread
Kent State is going to cover this spread by their offensive production. Wyoming relies on their defense and if Cooper can get it going then he should be in line for a huge day. Kent State averages over 120 more yards than Wyoming does offensively. The problem is they allow over 120 more yards as well. Wyoming doesn't have much of an offense so this could be a favorable matchup for them.
Kent State is just 6-7 against the spread this year. They've blown out teams like Akron but have also been blown out themselves. Their play isn't consistent but we could see something new for their final game of the year. They have won three of their last five games and put up at least 38 points in all three wins. If Kent State can limit the turnovers and establish a run game, then they should upset Wyoming Tuesday night.
Why Wyoming Could Cover The Spread
Wyoming can cover this spread if their offense can come to life. They don't score many points and scored just 14 in the 38-14 loss to Hawaii in November. Wyoming will also need to make sure its solid defense continues to limit opponents. If they can shut down Kent State's run game then they will be in this game until the finish. Wyoming has lost three of its last five games.
Wyoming is 4-7-1 against the spread this year which is a bad sign for bettors. Chambers is going to need to show something he hasn't if they want to put up the points they want. These two teams never face one other and so it will be interesting to see how each team attacks each other. Limiting turnovers is going to be the biggest factor as Chambers has one more interception than touchdown passes on the year.
Final Kent State-Wyoming Prediction & Pick
I'm taking Kent State to cover the spread and “upset” Wyoming in the Famous Idaho Bowl. I think the offense for Kent State is far better than Wyoming and I think they have a chance to put up a ton of points. If they can get through Wyoming's defense then it might not be a close game with the poor Wyoming offense.
Final Kent State-Wyoming Prediction & Pick: Kent State +3 (-105)
