Many have the Indianapolis Colts pegged as the favorites in the AFC South. We'll see how it plays out though, as the Tennessee Titans still have a talented roster without AJ Brown. Regardless, this franchise is going to be competitive but could use an upgrade in a couple of key areas. For that reason, we look at the biggest offseason moves the Colts must make to put the 2022 roster over the top.

Indianapolis will be a competitive team this coming up year. They are defensively sound and the offense is close to being one of the best. Especially with Matt Ryan under center. However, there are two spots on the roster the Colts should highly consider addressing before the start of the regular season.

The passing game could struggle a tad due to the lack of weapons on the team. Sure, Matt Ryan is an upgrade over Carson Wentz and the offensive line is stout outside of the left tackle position. But the tight end and wide receiver roles could use a facelift. If the Colts can find a way to improve those positions, their chances next season will drastically improve.

With that said, here are two offseason moves the Colts must make to put the roster over the top.

Colts' Best Offseason Moves

2. Trade for a star tight end

As of now, Indianapolis will be relying on Mo Alie-Cox to lead the way at tight end. He's been a backup throughout his career and hasn't done all that well with his limited opportunities. He has all of the athleticism in the world, but it hasn't resulted in great production for the Colts.

The front office did manage to draft Jelani Woods, but he's a raw prospect who needs time to develop. For that reason, the Colts should highly consider trading for a veteran tight end to immediately improve that position group. It'll be hard to do considering training camp is right around the corner, but it will be necessary for their hopeful playoff run.

Two names that stand out as potential trade targets are Dalton Schultz and Mike Gesicki. Neither of which have signed a long-term contract extension and are in line to play on a franchise tag. Now would be the time for the Colts to make a move and bring in one of those two stud tight ends to improve the roster.

1. Sign a veteran wide receiver

This wide receiver core essentially consists of Michael Pittman Jr. and nobody else. Hopefully, Parris Campbell can stay healthy while Alec Pierce has a chance to shine as a rookie. Even so, neither of them are exciting options behind Pittman, which means the Colts should look to the free agent market and reel in a veteran pass catcher.

If they don't then Indianapolis will undoubtedly rely on the rushing attack much like the Titans. Jonathan Taylor is a freak and Nyheim Hines is a great rotational backup. Regardless, the Colts are hoping to win the AFC South for the first time since 2014, and to do so, the front office must improve the wide receiver group.

Luckily for Indianapolis, there are some eye-popping names available in free agency. Both Julio Jones and Odell Beckham Jr. remained unsigned and would be great signings for the Colts. Jones didn't look great last year but very well could bounce back reuniting with Matt Ryan. Beckham Jr. is nursing an ACL injury but could be a great addition to the roster in the back half of the season. Look for the front office to potentially make some more offseason moves with the Colts starting training camp soon.
