Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri was not a sure thing to play on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders due to a groin injury. But the 45-year-old was eventually good to go, and in doing so, he broke yet another incredible record.

With a 25-yard field goal in the second quarter, Vinatieri overtook Morten Andersen as the NFL’s new all-time leader in points scored.

Anderson prerecorded a special video message congratulating Vinatieri for breaking his record.

Vinatieri, who was able to go up against Andersen, admitted he thought nobody would be able to break that points scored record.

“I had the privilege to play against him a handful of times in my early, early years and his twilight years,” Vinatieri said, via the Indianapolis Star. “Meeting him was awesome. He had 2,000-some-odd points, and his all-time stats and scoring numbers, I remember thinking nobody’s ever going to come close to that. It’s just so many points.”

In September, Vinatieri passed Andersen for the all-time mark for field goals with his 566th make in a Week 4 game against the Houston Texans.

Vinatieri, who spent his first 10 years in the league with the New England Patriots and the last 13 with Indianapolis, could potentially be playing his last season in the NFL. After claiming the all-time points mark, it's hard to see what other records he could be aiming for.

If this is indeed the end for Vinatieri, he'll still have half the season remaining to further extend his all-time points lead over Andersen and make his record that much tougher to top.
