Following an injury-filled 2020 season, Marlon Mack is returning to the Indianapolis Colts on a fully-guaranteed one-year deal worth $2 million.

First reported by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and later by Josina Anderson, the Mack news is a little surprising. Despite a torn Achilles a year ago, he may have seen a better fit with the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, or Seattle Seahawks, per PFT's Ben Rolfe.

Instead, Mack steps back into the mix with the Colts that already includes 2020 rookie sensation Jonathan Taylor and prolific pass-catching gridder Nyheim Hines. Taylor, selected 41st overall out of the University of Wisconsin in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Colts, rushed for 1,169 yards and 11 touchdowns on 232 carries and caught 36-of-39 targets for 299 yards and another score. Hines, meanwhile, rushed for 380 yards and three scores on 89 touches, and added 63 catches for 482 yards and four more scores. It's quite the tandem for incoming quarterback and former Philadelphia Eagles star Carson Wentz.

Mack's role with the Colts only ramped up from 2017-19, where he went from 583 yards from scrimmage during his rookie campaign to more than 1,100 yards from the line and eight total touchdowns in his last full season with Indianapolis in '19.

Taylor, Hines and Mack does make a nasty trio, but are there enough touches for the former South Florida star to make his mark? This could be a comfort move, with Mack looking to re-establish himself as a capable back after an Achilles injury. He's only 25, too, which makes him a ripe candidate for a bounceback year.
