Dallas Cowboys cornerback Stephon Gilmore leaving Week 18's contest against the Washington Commanders due to injury was a scary sight for Mike McCarthy. But in post-game comments, Gilmore expressed no doubt that he would be ready to roll come playoff time.

Gilmore described his shoulder has having “popped out, and they popped it back in place,” courtesy of the DallasCowboys.com's Patrik Walker.

The injury forced Gilmore from the game with just under two minutes remaining in the first half. The cornerback did not play any snaps in the second half, and his shoulder was in a sling as he looked on from the sideline.

Gilmore landed hard on his right shoulder after trying to knock down a pass intended for Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin. But he expressed no concern that he would miss anymore time because of the injury.

“It feels great now. I’m excited for next week.”

McCarthy was similarly unconcerned when speaking after the game, reiterating that “[h]e told me he was fine, and he’d be ready to go,” per The Athletic's Jon Machota.

Cowboys need Gilmore at 100%

The Cowboys, who will host their playoff game against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC's Wildcard Round, could ill afford another injury in their secondary.

Top cornerback Trevon Diggs has been out since Week 2 of the season due to a torn ACL suffered in practice. Gilmore has teamed up with DaRon Bland to form a top duo that helped Dallas field a top-five pass defense in 2023.

Seeing Gilmore down surely gave Cowboys fans a scare, but the level in concern in Dallas seems to be non-existent about the shoulder moving forward.
