Shawn Levy seems to believe Deadpool and Wolverine will be a unique MCU movie.
Speaking with Total Film for their cover story, Levy claimed that Deadpool and Wolverine “is not like any MCU movie” that has come before.
“What Kevin Feige has built with the MCU is historic as far as a string of successes, but culture has its tide chart, culture has ebbs and flows, and one thing we do know is you can't keep doing the same thing ad nauseam and expect people to greet it with the same excitement,” Levy said. “And so it just worked out really fortuitously because our movie is not like any MCU movie. Yeah, and I say that as a fan of a lot of MCU movies.”
He also discussed how amusing it is that Deadpool and Wolverine parallels a real crossroads that the MCU faces.
“We had no idea it would be this unique moment where people are asking what the MCU means any more,” he said to Total Film. “Can it surprise us? Can it break molds in ways that we don't expect? We certainly hope that this movie is an answer to those questions.”

What is Deadpool and Wolverine about?
Deadpool and Wolverine follows Wade Wilson (Reynolds) after being recruited for a mission by the Time Variance Authority (TVA). The mission will have major implications on the MCU's history. Along the way, he recruits the help of Wolverine (Jackman).
Emma Corrin, known for starring in The Crown, plays the movie's antagonist, Cassandra Nova. Succession star Matthew Macfadyen plays Paradox, a TVA agent.
Returning from the past two Deadpool movies are Morena Baccarin, Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Rob Delaney, Stefan Kapičić, and Brianna Hildebrand.
In a shocking move, Jennifer Garner will reprise her role of Elektra in the MCU movie. She first played the role in the 2003 Ben Affleck-led Daredevil movie. She would subsequently get her own solo movie in 2005.
But she has not been seen in the role since. Garner starred alongside Reynolds in Levy's The Adam Project. Perhaps that is when the pitch was made for her Elektra return.
Deadpool and Wolverine was directed by Levy. He co-wrote the script with Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. It is the only MCU movie slated to be released in 2024.
