Miami Dolphins fans can breathe a sigh of relief. It turns out running back Jeff Wilson won't be out of commission for long.

Wilson's agent Drew Rosenhaus said the best-case scenario is his client taking the field for the Dolphins' Week 5 game against the New York Giants, per WSVN 7News' Josh Moser.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Jeff Wilson's injury is a midsection issue that began several weeks ago.

“It's a midsection injury compounded by some finger issues. We made the assessment he couldn't protect himself and couldn't be himself the way we know him to be. I wouldn't be surprised if he would make a return this season. We will let his body tell us,” McDaniel said on Thursday.

The Dolphins are currently hobbling at the running back position heading into Week 1 of the NFL regular season. Only Raheem Mostert and rookie Chris Brooks are 100 percent healthy for McDaniel's running backs corps. Another rookie rusher, De'Von Achane, is recovering from a shoulder injury but should be back in harness for the season opener.

With Miami's dire running back situation in mind, the Dolphins reached out to the Indianapolis Colts for Jonathan Taylor. Unfortunately, that possibility fizzled out because of Taylor's steep asking price.

The injury bug has also bitten the Dolphins hard at other positions. Defensive back Jalen Ramsey and offensive lineman Robert Jones are also on the injured list.

For his part, Jeff Wilson had 392 rushing yards and three touchdowns in eight games for the Dolphins last season. Expect him to resume his role as the Dolphins' No. 2 rusher behind Mostert once he takes the field again.
