Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill is out for this weeks game against the Detroit Lions but the NFL is still looking into how the team handled Tannehill's injury leading into last Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears according to the Miami Herald.

Tannehill injured his shoulder in the previous game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He missed last Monday and Tuesday's practice but according to Wednesday's injury report, he was a full participant. Coach Adam Gase said that things went downhill on Thursday but according to the practice report he was still a full participant.

“He was starting to feel better and then we went out and practiced on Wednesday and he was sore but he was fine,” Gase told reporters after the victory over the Chicago Bears. “And then Thursday kind of came around and it just kind of got progressively worse as far as his ability to really throw the ball the way he wanted to. So we kind of were just making contingency plans in case it just didn’t get any better.”

The question the NFL will be investigating was if Tannehill was actually a full participant during Thursday's practice.

The Dolphins also listed Tannehill as questionable when media outlets on Sunday were reporting he was more doubtful than questionable. The NFL takes reporting injuries very seriously and there could be some harsh punishment.

A violation of the policy may result in commissioner discipline, which may include a fine on the involved club, fines or suspensions of involved individuals, as well as the possible forfeiture of draft choices by the involved club.
