Expectations are high for Tua Tagovailoa, given that the Miami Dolphins took him with the fifth overall pick in the NFL Draft last month.

However, Tagovailoa isn't worried about putting up numbers or impressing with his arm. He is more concerned about building camaraderie with his teammates:

“Just creating relationships,” Tagovailoa said when asked about his biggest priority entering his rookie campaign, according to Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post. “Maybe starting out with the quarterbacks and then working my way down to the linemen or starting with the linemen, but just creating relationships a little at a time. Especially during times like this, it’s hard, so I think that’d be best.”

Of course, due to the coronavirus pandemic, NFL facilities have been slow to open, but Tagovailoa seems to have the right approach.

Fellow quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick says he has been communicating with Tagovailoa and is excited to work with the University of Alabama product:

“We’ve been going over some of that stuff, and my mind and the process and how I think through it, right or wrong, just to provide some perspective,” Fitzpatrick said. “I’m excited for him to be here. I loved watching him play in college. I think he’s going to be an awesome addition to the team for a long time.”

Due to a rash of injuries in college, including ankle and hip issues during his final NCAA season, some were skeptical on Tagovailoa heading into the draft. In fact, there was chatter that the Dolphins could pass on him altogether.

But clearly, Miami was enamored with Tagovailoa's talent, not to mention his team-first attitude.
