The Miami Dolphins appear to have their sights set on picking up a quarterback at some point during the upcoming draft. They have been linked with Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield, whom they were reportedly impressed with. They’re also set to meet with Washington State’s Luke Falk.

However, Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reports that despite the constant links to Mayfield, Dolphins head coach Adam Gase is apparently “obsessed” with a different top quarterback: Josh Rosen.

The Dolphins, who currently own the No. 11 pick, would be well out of range to pick either Mayfield or Rosen unless they move up into the top five or six in the draft. But if Gase is as enamored with Rosen as has been implied, perhaps he can persuade the front office to do everything they can to get the young quarterback.

Rosen grabbed headlines recently following some less-than-flattering comments of his former college coach Jim Mora. Mora said Rosen was a “millennial” who needed to be challenged intellectually or else he might get bored.

But while that questionable attitude might scare off some other teams, Gase has a reputation for being a quarterback whisperer who might just be able to push all the right buttons to get the best out of Rosen. It should be noted that Rosen has drawn comparisons to Jay Cutler, whom Gase has built a strong rapport with, both in Denver and Miami last season.

It remains to be seen whether Gase can actually land the object of his obsession, if Rosen is indeed that. But even if he isn’t, Gase would likely be pleased with ending up with a quarterback who has the sort of immense upside that Rosen has.
