For the last several weeks, it has been looking less and less likely that the Miami Dolphins would take a quarterback with the No. 5 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Now, it's becoming almost a given that they won't.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Dolphins are looking to trade up from the fifth selection to take an offensive tackle. Rapoport notes that Miami has been “gauging the price” for the No. 3 pick, which belongs to the Detroit Lions.

Lions general manager Bob Quinn has previously said that he is open to trading the third overall selection, so the Dolphins and their wealth of draft picks this year and in 2021 could be a perfect match for Detroit.

At the beginning of the offseason, it was widely assumed that Miami would be taking University of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa at No. 5, but the Dolphins have apparently soured on Tagovailoa due to health concerns.

Oregon's Justin Herbert represents another possible option, but it seems like Miami is going in another direction.

It would be a peculiar move for a Dolphins franchise that is in desperate need of a quarterback. Brian Flores' club is currently employing 37-year-old journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick and disappointing youngster Josh Rosen under center, so drafting a signal-caller appeared to be the natural course of action for Miami.

But apparently, the Dolphins are either not in love with the potential options at quarterback, or they feel their shoddy offensive line is a more pressing need.

Miami went 5-11 this past season.
