Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz’s recovery from a torn ACL has recently been characterized as “shockingly” ahead of schedule. That certainly does seem to be the case, as Eagles coach Doug Pederson confirmed that Wentz has already been cleared to start doing 7-on-7 work at OTAs this week — just five short months after his injury.

“Part of the rehab process with him is just giving him a little more practice time,” Pederson said per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “One of the controlled environments that we can obviously put him in is a 7-on-7 situation. Being able to sprinkle him in and watch him in more of an up-tempo kind of a practice has been good.”

Pederson declined to comment as to whether Wentz actually is ahead of schedule in his rehab. Although, the Eagles coach has to be pleased that his starting quarterback is making such progress this offseason. The fact that Wentz is already working on team drills is a testament to the quickness of his recovery thus far.

Wentz has previously voiced his optimism that he will be able to make it in time for the season opener. And at the current rate of his rehab, it seems like he’s well on course toward making that a reality.

Of course, if there’s any team in the league that can afford to give Wentz more time to recover, it’s the Eagles since they have Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles waiting in the wings. But if Wentz is indeed fully ready to go by Week 1, the Eagles won’t be complaining.
