Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles suffered yet another setback in practice with his hamstring injury. However, it appears head coach Doug Pederson is still holding out hope for a return.

The Eagles have placed Sproles on injured reserve with the likelihood that he will miss his final season in the NFL. Fortunately, Pederson is optimistic that he still has a chance to make an impact in his career finale, via the Associated Press:

Eagles coach Doug Pederson says he optimistic running back Darren Sproles will play again this season despite suffering a setback with his hamstring injury.

Pederson's optimism is certainly an encouraging sign. Philadelphia has since placed Sproles on IR which essentially rules him out for the rest of the regular season. However, it seems Perderson is hoping the veteran can potentially return for the playoffs if the Eagles are able to make it that far.

Regardless, the update deals a striking blow the Sproles swan song this year. His 2017 campaign ended early when he broke his arm and tore his ACL on the same play. However, he still decided to give it one more shot. Unfortunately, his return was short-lived due to the hamstring issue. His only appearance came against the Atlanta Falcons in the season opener, in which he finished with 10 yards on five carries and 22 yards on four receptions.

Although it was a small sample size, it is clear that Sproles was poised for an integral role in the Eagles' backfield. Pederson is hoping to have as much firepower at his disposal if Philadelphia has the chance to defend its championship crown in the postseason.
