The Philadelphia Eagles have a plethora of injuries in their secondary as they begin training camp. Bringing in a veteran like Johnathan Cyprien could prove to be very beneficial right now.

According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia signed Johnathan Cyprien on Friday. In a corresponding move, the team also released safety Godwin Igwebuike.

The Eagles signed Cyprien to a one-year deal to help provide depth to their secondary. As we speak, Philadelphia is without Jalen Mills, Ronald Darby, Cre'von LeBlanc, and Rodney McLeod due to injuries.

Therefore, the Eagles were in the market for a safety or cornerback to help them in the backend of their defense. In the end, they decided to add a veteran safety like Cyprien.

Before arriving on the Eagles, Cyprien spent four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and last played in 2017 with the Tennessee Titans. Last season, Cyprien suffered a torn ACL with the Titans and missed the entire season.

Over the entirety of his career, Cyprien has played the strong safety position. Although, the Eagles are set at the strong safety position with Malcolm Jenkins and Andrew Sendejo.

As a result, Cyprien may have to provide some help at the free safety position while McLeod misses some time. He also may be asked to play as a hybrid linebacker in passing situations as well.

In his career, Cyprien has four seasons where he has over 100 total tackles and has two interceptions in his career. The Eagles may have added Cyprien for this season, but their main goal is to get guys that were hurt in their secondary in 2018 back to being one-hundred percent.
