It has been an American tradition following the Super Bowl that the winning team gets to visit the current president and the White House. This year, that's the Philadelphia Eagles.
This year that won't be the case, as Donald Trump canceled the visit just one day before the Eagles were set to make the trip to Washington D.C.
Trump released a statement saying the reason for canceling was over disagreements regarding the national anthem. The president still plans on holding an event that will “honor our great country, pay tribute to the heroes who fight to protect it, and loudly and proudly play the national anthem.”
Torrey Smith, who was apart of the championship team sent out a few tweets trying to clear up the air, and calling Trump a liar.

Smith followed that up with a tweet, saying that his former teammates that wanted to go should have still been able to go.
“There are a lot of people on the team that have plenty of different views. The men and women that wanted to go should’ve been able to go. It’s a cowardly act to cancel the celebration because the majority of the people don’t want to see you. To make it about the anthem is foolish.”
It's unclear how many players from the Eagles were actually going to attend the ceremony, but from the sounds of the tweets, it wasn't going to be too many.
This also seems like a battle that isn't going to be figured out anytime soon, as this national anthem debate seems just to be heating up.
