Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is officially inactive in Week 3 for Philadelphia's home game against the Detroit Lions, per the team's official inactive list. He joins fellow starting wide receiver DeSean Jackson as those to sit the game.

Jeffery suffered a calf injury during Philadelphia's 24-20 Week 2 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He and Jackson join running back Corey Clement, defensive end Shareef Miller, linebacker Kamu Grieger-Hill, guard Nate Herbig and defensive tackle Tim Jernigan as those that will not play against Detroit.

The Eagles were holding out hope that Jeffery would play, despite missing all of the week's practice. While he's played through injuries in the past, Philadelphia is playing the long game, as they don't want to risk injury before having to quickly turn around for Thursday night's game against the Green Bay Packers.

For the season, Jeffery has six targets for five receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown; all of which were compiled during Philadelphia's Week 1 32-27 win over the Washington Redskins.

With Jeffery and Jackson out, the Eagles are enlisting the help of their young depth. Second-round rookie J.J. Arcega-Whiteside is expected to run in Jeffery's X-receiver role, while Mack Hollins will insert where Jackson plays. Nelson Agholor will remain in the slot. In addition, the team promoted Greg Ward Jr. to the active roster to play his first NFL game. The Eagles will have four receivers on the roster.

The 1-1 Eagles are hoping to hang-in with division leaders, the 2-0 Dallas Cowboys, by defeating the 1-0-1 Lions on Sunday.
