Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever will be getting the Disney+ treatment.

Disney announced that a third animated Diary of a Wimpy Kid, this one adapting Cabin Fever, will hit Disney+ December 8.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise went into the animation medium beginning in 2021. On December 3, 2021, Disney+ debuted the first CG-animated Wimpy Kid film. The films adapted the first book with a 3D animated look. A sequel, Rodrick Rules, premiered on the service nearly a year later on December 2, 2022, adapting the second book.

Cabin Fever is the sixth book in the series. Given its plot and December release date, perhaps Disney wanted to jump ahead and tie their next film in with the holiday season. The book series has 18 entries and counting, so who knows in what order they will make the next Disney+ films.

Brady Noon voiced Greg Heffley in the first two Diary of a Wimpy Kid Disney+ films. Ethan William Childress and Hunter Dillon voiced Rowley and Rodrick, respectively.

Prior to the animated films, the books were made into four films. In the first three, Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron, and Devon Bostick played Greg, Rowley, and Rodrick, respectively. All three films were box office hits, but the fourth film, The Long Haul (which featured a new cast), tanked the franchise. Once Disney acquired the rights to Jeff Kinney's franchise, they decided to adapt them into hour-long animated films — which are probably cheaper and more profitable on Disney+.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever will be released on December 8 on Disney+.
