Five Nights at Freddy's first reaction instantly became a classic case of mixed opinions among its early viewers. Although long-anticipated, it seems not a lot were happy about it. Some of those who watched Five Nights at Freddy's shared their reaction on X (formerly Twitter).

Out of 5 who got access to early screenings, the majority felt disappointed.

X user @thejasvalentine tweeted, “FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S is easily the worst film I have seen this year.”

Her scathing review mirrors the sentiments of another filmgoer @theofisher82 who also had high hopes for the adaptation. This time, he wasn't quite as forgiving. He described the movie as “the most uneven film of the year” and criticized its divergence from what was expected. He labeled it a “convoluted PG-13 mess.”

Meanwhile, @LukeHeartfield adopted a more neutral perspective to the film. Much like the first two users, he expressed his disappointment, saying. “I can't speak about #FiveNightsAtFreddys as a fan of the game, but as a film – it's a completely flat and jumbled misfire.” He highlighted issues with the story, performances, and dialogue, calling it “the most unsure-of-itself film of 2023.”

Despite Five Nights at Freddy's mixed reactions, the film did manage to find some favor among fans.

The Brothers Geek Out Podcast commended the film's electrifying jump scares and considered it a treat for dedicated fans. While X user @TomMCJL was surprisingly thrilled by the film. “#FiveNightsAtFreddys leaps above its flaws to deliver a practically perfect; satisfying, fun & thrill-worthy good time at the movies.” He particularly praised the performances of Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard.

Now, it's worth noting that these are Five Nights at Freddy's initial reactions. The debate about whether it's a good film and meets expectations will keep going.
