It sounds like J. Cole's professional basketball career is officially coming to an end — for now at least. The Grammy Award-winning rapper recently announced his decision to leave the Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. As it turns out, Cole has some other obligations to attend to.

Cole played just four games for the Shooting Stars before deciding to turn his back on his team in favor of going on tour. The hip-hop icon revealed that he's already said his goodbyes to his teammates:

“I was telling the guys in there like, ‘I’m going for these shows, I’m not sure if I’ll be back,’” Cole said, via Alex Gheciu of Complex. “But just in case, I had to let them know how incredible this was. The players, the coaching staff, the organization, the league, it’s a crazy thing when you see it on paper, when you see what’s actually happening, and they made me feel so welcome.”

J Cole said that this was a “priceless” experience for him and that he truly appreciates the team for allowing him to live out his dream to be a professional basketball player. At the end of the day, however, it's his music that pays the bills and Cole just has to do what he has to do.

“I wanna say thank you to the fans, the people of, first of all Canada, Toronto, and specifically Scarborough, because being in the city for now four weeks, however long it’s been, the amount of excitement that people show, and pride they show, they’re happy that I’m here. I appreciate that,” he said. “They’re excited for basketball in Canada and specifically Toronto, there’s so much pride in Toronto.”

J Cole isn't exactly the best player out there but there's also no denying that he has some skills. Moreover, the buzz he brings to the team — including the massive crowds he draws to watch him in every game — is something that cannot be ignored.
