Andrew Garfield is in talks to star with Academy Award winner Julia Roberts in Luca Guadagnino's upcoming feature film After the Hunt, with an expected 2025 release date, Deadline exclusively reported.
Luca Guadagnino's next hot project
The Amazon MGM Studios film will be directed by Guadagnino from Nora Garrett's script. Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum of Image Entertainment and Guadagnino through his banner Frenesy will also serve as producers. Imagine's Karen Lunder will serve as executive producer with Nora Garrett. The movie is expected to begin production this summer.
After the Hunt is described as an intense dramatic thriller. It follows the story of a college professor who arrives at a personal and professional crossroad when a favored student accuses one of her colleague, which threatens to uncover dark secret from her past.
The project has long been a hot property since Imagine received the script and started developing it at the start of the year, with A-list directors and actors wanting a slice of it. When Guadagnino and Roberts landed the project, Amazon moved to be part of the property.

The two-time Oscar nominated Garfield will next be seen in A24 and Studio Canal's romantic drama We Live In Time with Florence Pugh. The actor, who won a Golden Globe and a Tony was last seen in FX's 2022 miniseries Under the Banner of Heaven, for which he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy.
HIs previous credits include Lin Manuel Miranda's 2021 biographic musical film Tick, Tick… Boom! for which he was nominated at the Oscars for best actor and won a Golden Globe. In the same year, he was in the Marvel Studios' film Spider-Man: No Way Home as one of the Peter Parkers, with Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire.
In 2017, he played Prior Walter in Tony Kushner's two-part Angels in America at the Lyttelton Theatre in London's National Theater. He was nominated for a Lawrence Olivier and won a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Play. He also played the Amazing Spider-Man in two movies in 2012 and 2014, with Emma Thompson as Gwen Stacy, with the films grossing more than $1.5 billion.
Roberts was last seen in the 2023 Netflix mystery drama Leave the World Behind. Her previous film credits include 2013's August: Osage County with Meryl Streep, 2010's Eat Pray Love, 2004's Closer with Natalie Portman, and 2003's Mona Lisa Smile. She also starred in two of the three Ocean's remake films in 2001 and 2004. She won her best actress Oscar in 2001 for Erin Brockovich.
Guadagnino is coming fresh off the Zendaya-led movie Challengers. His film credits include 2022's Bones and All which reunited him with Timothée Chalamet. He worked with the actor in the 2017 film Call Me By Your Name, for which the filmmaker was nominated for an Oscar for best picture.
He has several upcoming projects such as the Daniel Craig-led drama Queer, the currently in production movie Burial Rites starring Jennifer Lawrence. The director is also developing a remake of the series Brideshead Revisited, which will star Cate Blanchett, Ralph Fiennes and Rooney Mara.
