Neflix recently announced the premiere date for its animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft,” based on the legendary video game franchise, Variety reported.
The show will debut on Oct. 10 with Hayley Atwell voicing the the titular British archaeologist. Its first look trailer was released September last year.
The series picks up after the events of the Survivor games: Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
The logline reads: “Lara Croft has abandoned her friends to embark on increasingly more perilous solo adventures. But she must return home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with an uncanny personal connection. Her daring pursuit will take her on an adventure around the world and to the depths of forgotten tombs, where she will be forced to confront her true self, and decide just what kind of hero she wants to become.”
Other actors voicing the characters are Allen Maldonado and Earl Baylon, who reprises his in the game series as Jonah Maiava.
Tasha Huo serves as writer and executive producer for the series, with Legendary Television and DJ2 Entertainment serving as producers. Powerhouse Animation Studios animated the series.
The Tomb Raider in games and movies
The first Tomb Raider video game was released in 1996 for PCs, the PlayStation and Sega Saturn consoles. Core Design originally developed the game while the franchise is currently owned by CDE Entertainment. The game's main series currently has 12 titles. It also has 18 mobile and spinoff games.

With its $274.7 million at the box office, the movie is the 13th highest grossing video game adaptations. A sequel was released two years later, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, which also starred Gerard Butler.
While there were plans to make a third, it was scrapped when Jolie opted not to return. A reboot was made 15 years after the sequel, this time with Alicia Vikander playing Lady Croft in 2018's Tomb Raider.
With Jolie and Vikander having played the iconic video game character on screen, that means movie Lara Croft has had two Oscar winners play her.
A live-action series is currently in the works on Prime Video with Phoebe Waller-Bridge attached to write and executive produce. The Fleabag creator will not star in the series.
Atwell recently appeared in last year's Mission: Impossible – Dead Recknoning Part One. She'll next be seen in the sequel currently in post-production. The Agent Carter actress will also appear in Netflix's upcoming season three of Heartstopper. She'll next be seen in the animated sci-fi feature Rogue Trooper and the drama The Queen of Fashion.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft will premiere Oct. 10 on Netflix.
