Will Smith and the Oscars 2022 are going viral, but for all the wrong reasons. As a lot of people may have seen by now, Smith slapped presenter Chris Rock on live TV after the comedian made a joke about the actor's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

It certainly shocked everyone in attendance, as much as it surprised everyone who was watching the ceremony or those who simply saw the video on social media.

For those who missed it, Chris Rock made a joke about Jada starring in “GI Jane 2” because of her shaved head. For those not in the know, Will's wife has been vocal about her hair loss in recent years as she deals with alopecia.

According to Mayo Clinic, alopecia is another term for hair loss. It can affect just the scalp or the entire body, and it can be temporary or permanent.

As mentioned, Jada Pinkett Smith has been vocal about her struggles with alopecia. In a 2018 episode of her Red Table Talk, she shared how “terrifying” it was to deal with when it first started.

“A lot of people have been asking why I've been wearing turbans. Well, I haven't talked about it. It's not easy to talk about, but I am going to talk about it,” Jada said at the time, per People.

“I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, ‘Oh my God, am I going bald? It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking in fear. That's why I cut my hair, and why I continue to cut it.”

With that said, Will Smith definitely looked like he was pissed by the rather insensitive joke. While some argue that it's staged, it is worth noting that the “King Richard” actor shouted at Chris Rock after slapping him to emphasize not to use his wife's name with his Oscars 2022 jokes.

True enough, slapping Chris and getting physical was certainly not the best way to deal with the situation. Will Smith could have pulled him aside and simply talked with the Oscars presenter, but he had to choose violence. He could have also walked out to send a message that he wouldn't tolerate such kind of jokes.

Unfortunately, emotions were high and things got physical.
