Charging head-on to New Orleans Saints coach Dennis Allen was not the only reason why Arthur Smith made headlines. A swift decision was made by the Atlanta Falcons organization led by Arthur Blank after the defeat. They had to let go of the head coach and shop for someone better during the offseason. However, they did not push through with the move without releasing a statement to explain the rationale, via Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

“Decisions like this are never easy and they never feel good. We have profound respect for Coach Smith and appreciate all the hard work and dedication that he has put into the Falcons over the last three years. He has been part of building a good culture in our football team, but the results have not met expectations. After significant thought and reflection, we have determined the best way forward for our team is new leadership in the head coaching position.” Arthur Blank said about the Falcons' choice to boot their head coach.

Throughout Arthur Smith's three-year tenure in the Falcons system, he had a losing record. After a loss to Dennis Allen's Saints, the squad had seven wins and 10 losses which was a clear sign that things were not working out. Some fans were also disgruntled about rotational calls that seemed to misuse Bijan Robinson and Kyle Pitts.

There are a lot of candidates that are going to compete for the Falcons job. Some of which may not be in the league like Jim Harbaugh. Hopefully, they can find the right fit.
