Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff says that the team is “very close” to agreeing to a new deal with wide receiver Julio Jones, according to Matthew Tabeek of the Falcons' official team website.

Dimitroff said that he's confident both sides will come to terms on an extension “in the relatively near future.”

“Obviously Julio is a special player for us and, of course, we’d like to have it done as soon as possible,” Dimitroff said.

Jones has been looking for a new contract all offseason but has not made any noise about it. The star wideout has two years remaining on his current deal and is set to make $9.6 million this year and $11.426 million in 2020.

The 30-year-old is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he led the NFL with 1,677 receiving yards, hauling in 113 receptions while scoring eight touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Jones, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was originally selected by the Falcons with the sixth overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.

He immediately made an impact during his rookie year, catching 54 passes for 959 yards and eight scores. He then made the Pro Bowl in his second season after snaring 79 balls for 1,198 yards while reaching the end zone 10 times.

Injuries limited Jones to just five games in 2013, but since then, the receiver has made five straight Pro Bowl appearances, including back-to-back First-Team All-Pro selections in 2015 and 2016.

Jones has paced the league in receiving yards twice and receptions once since 2015.
