Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts had a monster rookie season back in 2021, but a knee injury during the 2022 season has slowed him down. Pitts hasn't been able to replicate the success that he found during his first year in the NFL, but he should be much healthier this season. He went down in week 11 of his second season, and despite playing in all 17 games last year, Pitts wasn't himself. The Falcons are hoping to have rookie season Pitts back for the 2024 season.

The Falcons recently picked up Kyle Pitts' fifth year option, and that meant a lot to him. They know that the potential is there for Pitts to have another big year like he did as a rookie, and Pitts is glad that they have confidence in him.

“Definitely it's a blessing for the upstairs to still have faith in me,” Pitts said, according to an article from atlantafalcons.com. “I'll try to show them I can do something different this year.”

Atlanta is excited about Pitts being healthy again and they are looking forward to seeing what he can do this season. Falcons head coach Raheem Morris knows that the sky is the limit for him.

“He's really excited about being healthy, and so are we,” Raheem Morris said. “Getting a healthy Kyle Pitts back gives you a really dynamic player that we believe in a lot. … If we can get this guy going, we all know what he could be.”

Kyle Pitts believes that he is a ‘super rookie'

Because of the injury trouble, Kyle Pitts really hasn't had a lot of time in the NFL when he was fully healthy. He has played in three seasons with the Falcons, but he thinks of himself as a ‘super rookie.'

“I would say I'm a super rookie,” Pitts said. “I'm not a rookie rookie. But we're all in this new offense, new regime, new schedule. We're all in this fresh.”

In his rookie season, Pitts hauled in 68 receptions for 1,026 yards and one touchdown. He had a great first year in the league, but his next season was obviously different as he only played in 10 games. He finished the year with 28 receptions for 356 yards and two touchdowns.

Last season, Pitts caught 53 passes for 667 yards and three touchdowns. He played in all 17 games, but preparing for contests during the week is what gave him the most trouble.

“It wouldn't say it was so much bad during the game,” Pitts said. “It was more the preparation during the week, just dealing with soreness and tightness all through the week. Then, Sunday is show day, so I figured it out.”

Hopefully for Pitts, he isn't dealing with that kind of pain during preparation time. We have all seen what kind of player he can be when is he is fully healthy and playing in every game. If this season goes to plan for Kyle Pitts and the Falcons, he should be able to put up some really good numbers like he did during his rookie season.
