In a shock decision on Wednesday, the No. 1 recruit in high school football's Class of 2022 has decided to flip his commitment. Cornerback Travis Hunter, who had initially committed to join Mike Norvell and Florida State, has had a last-minute change of heart and has decided that Tallahassee is no longer in his future.

Instead, Hunter has informed Florida State that he will be taking his talents to Jackson State, where he will play under legendary defensive back Deion Sanders, per Pete Thamel.

This is a massive loss for the Seminoles and an even bigger gain for Sanders and the Jackson State Tigers. Hunter initially committed to Florida State back in March of 2020, but it seems Sanders was hard at work recruiting the five-star cornerback to come play for him, in a push that proved highly successful.

Hunter, who hails from Shawnee, Ga., ranks as the No. 1 recruit in the country according to 247Sports. The Collins High School standout had offers from many of the top programs in the nation, including Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn, and of course, FSU.

Hunter is extremely versatile, and while he's graded as the No. 1 cornerback in the class, he's also an elite wide receiver. Hunter has racked up over 3,600 receiving yards and 46 touchdowns throughout his high school career as a receiver, while coming away with 19 interceptions on defense.

He took to Twitter to make the announcement official and offer some explanation into his decision to spurn the ‘Noles in favor of Sanders and the Tigers.

As Hunter states in his post, playing for an HBCU and following in the path of the likes of Jerry Rice, Doug Williams, and Walter Payton played a pivotal role in his decision to join Jackson State.
