The series will consist of two online qualifiers, the first of which will take place on June 17-19, and latter on July 15-17, 2022. Four teams from these qualifiers will be awarded an all-expense paid trip to Southern California, where the finals will take place. It will be played on LAN on August 6, 2022.
Galorants Owner and Co-Creator Nicci Barker shared their sentiments toward this momentous achievement in recognizing the female-identifying VALORANT community. “This tournament is all about amplifying some of the best of the best VALORANT has to offer. We’re beyond the point of needless separation when it comes to esports when there are likely teams who desperately need this level of talent in their own organization. With the help of Tampax and Always we are helping breakdown these gender barriers.”
Article Continues BelowThroughout Astral Clash, content creators and influencers such as Krystalogy, Blisskai, Nicki Taylor, Jessica Kim, Raeyei, and Shannon Williams will make up the Tampax and Always ambassador teams. They will participate in the event through livestreams, community giveaways, and appearances in the finals, aside from the empowerment and mentorship that they will provide.
These ambassador teams will play to raise money for two charities. The Tampax ambassador team's beneficiary is the Period Education Project, a community-focused program that aims to improve menstrual health education. Always, on the other hand, will be playing for Uniquely You Summit, an organization built around “[giving] voice and validity to the Black Girlhood experience.”
“Gen.G is excited to continue our partnership with Galorants and empower women gamers with the iconic brands of Tampax and Always,” said Gina Chung Lee, Chief Marketing Officer of Gen.G. “Our aim with this campaign is to continue to highlight and create opportunities for women gaming communities, by providing a forum for this community to connect online and in real life.”
Melissa Suk, Vice President, North America Tampax and Always, Procter & Gamble also commented on how significant this event is towards empowering women in gaming. “Tampax and Always, leaders in the period care category, are committed to driving confidence while breaking down period stigma through real-talk education and open and honest conversations. Through programs like Always’ #KeepHerPlaying campaign, we’ve seen firsthand the importance of encouraging girls to participate in sports to help build confidence. We’re proud to expand this work into esports by partnering with Gen.G and Galorants, two like-minded organizations who champion the same mission of breaking down barriers in the gaming community, to continue to deliver on our mission.”
Since its release, VALORANT has seen a rise in female-identifying and nonbinary members of its community. The launch of Game Changers has driven many women to try their hand at professional VALORANT. Female content creators, viewers, and players also make up a decent percentage of the playerbase.
