It Takes Two pushed out an update that adds support for Steam Deck and removes its dependence on the EA Launcher, among other things. Check out all the details of this It Takes Two update here.
It Takes Two May 30, 2024 update
This is a major update, but it mostly pertains to out-of-game changes and updates.
- It Takes Two is now Steam Deck Verified! so you can play it anywhere on the go!
- The EA App launcher is no longer needed to play It Takes Two.
- An EA account is still required to connect to EA servers for online play.
- Sending game invites and joining your friends’ games is now supported directly through the Steam friends list.
- Friend’s Pass users can install the new Steam version of the Friend’s Pass, or continue using the existing EA App Friend’s Pass.
EA App Launcher
Players can now play with each other without the EA friends list. You can now send game invites through Steam via the Steam friends list.
However, players can still use the EA App Launcher to play. When inviting a friend to play, choose the EA Friends List option in-game to send a game invite through the EA Launcher.
An EA account is no longer required for local play or when using Steam Remote Play Together. But to play online, an EA Account must be linked to your steam account. Selecting “Play Online” from the main menu will prompt you to link an EA account if you do not have one linked.
Friend's Pass
If the EA App still launches when you play the Friend's Pass, you need to install the new version of the Friend's Pass that no longer requires the EA App. The old version will still work, but players will have to be invited through the “EA Friends List” option in-game. Sending or accepting invites through the Steam Friends List requires the new version of the Friend's Pass.
Invites sent through EA are only visible while It Takes Two is running.
Cloud Saves
It Takes Two now uses the Steam Cloud for save games. Save games you have on your computer will automatically be uploaded to the Steam Cloud when you start the game.
Due to technical limitations, save games previously stored in the EA App Cloud are no longer accessible.
For any players that have lost progress because of this, please download this completed save game and copy it to your save data folder in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\ItTakesTwo
After starting It Takes Two with this completed save, the Chapter Select menu can be used to continue playing from any point in the game.
It Takes Two
It Takes Two was initially released on March 26, 2021, for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S. It came to the Nintendo Switch on November 4, 2022. It was well-received and sold over 1 million units a month after its launch. As of March 2024, sales numbers have reached over 16 million units.
It has won numerous awards and nominated for even more. These include wins for Game of the Year, Best Family Game, and Best Multiplayer Game from The Game Awards in 2021. From the Golden Joystick Awards that same year, It Takes Two won Best Multiplayer Game and was nominated for Ultimate Game of the Year.
