As the world is slowly recovering due to the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, many in-person events have either been reduced to being online-only or have been completely canceled outright. While EVO 2022 will be returning this year, and E3 2022 has been canceled, QuakeCon 2022 will be available this year as a digital-only event. QuakeCon is an annual event focused on game announcements centered around classic ID Software IPs including Quake and Doom, the sharing of community content for ZeniMax-owned games, as well as one of the largest LAN Parties for PC gamers in the country.
In a blog post made over on the official QuakeCon Twitter page, a public statement has been made regarding the event, claiming that there was “too much uncertainty” to commit to executing an in-person event. They also state that they are planning to reveal more details in June as they prepare the digital-only event to include a ton of convention activities, including a virtual LAN party.

For many users, QuakeCon started off as a simple IRC chatroom where users gathered around to share custom Doom WADs and Quake mods, find players for online matches and just share their love for everything Doom and Quake. But since then, it spawned into this massive gaming event that turned into a rite of passage for some. Many PC gamers out there would argue that you haven't experienced true PC gaming until you have attended a massive LAN party like QuakeCon.
While the public reception to the news has been met with plenty of disappointment, many fans are remaining hopeful that 2023 will have QuakeCon back and in full effect.
QuakeCon 2022's digital-only event will be taking place between August 18th thru 20th.
