Watch Dogs: Legion launched as the third entry in Ubisoft's futuristic high-tech open-world sandbox series. Legion sees players utilizing hacks to get past locks and cameras in order to pursue a larger goal for a secret organization. Similar to the earlier titles in the series, Legion introduced an online mode that had players going up against each other in a wide variety of game modes. Online was never Watch Dogs main selling point but it always provided a fun alternative to the open-world single-player campaign. Now, players clamored for Ubisoft to bring cross-play functionality to the amazing Online world of Watch Dogs: Legion.

Ubisoft made no official announcements through press releases or video teasers. The only shred of info we have comes from an innocuous response to a fan asking for cross-gen functionality. The official Watch Dogs: Legion Twitter confirmed that the requested functions can't work on the current build of Legion. However, they promised that the development team currently works toward introducing both cross-play and cross-generation-play in a future update.

Legion's Online modes kicked off last week for consoles but the PC version for Online remains in limbo. Ubisoft identified an issue that causes certain GPUs to crash when booting Legion. For now, only console players get to experience the sprawling online game modes for Watch Dogs: Legion.

The Online game modes teaser video promised exciting combinations for any four-player squad booting into missions. The PC players no doubt are eagerly awaiting Ubisoft's fix for their version of the game. The online modes for games live and die by the consistent number of players dedicated to it. Hopefully, Ubisoft fixes the PC problem and gets cross-play and cross-generation-play online before they start losing loyal players for Watch Dogs: Legion. Cross-play means absolutely nothing if you have no more players left.
