One of the new additions coming to Genshin Impact 2.1 is the Genshin Impact Fishing System. We've reported on its leak before, but the announcement at the most recent Special Program confirms the new features. With this new system, travelers will be able to cast their line for fishing in designated areas of water. There are certain items, such as The Catch polearm weapon – which has an Energy Recharge substat, making it really good for Raiden Shogun, and various fishing rods that are obtainable at Fishing Association NPCs in exchange for specific quantities of certain fish. Additionally, the limited-time fishing event, Lunar Realm, is currently still ongoing.

The Genshin Impact Fishing System

The new Genshin Impact Fishing System has made its way into Genshin Impact 2.1, and may be unlocked by finishing the “Exploding Population” world quest. Players must have unlocked the housing system, the Serenitea Pot, to automatically get the quest on their quest log. This quest begins with talking to Katheryne in Mondstadt, and will be fairly straightforward from there.

The first thing aspiring fishermen have to consider is their bait. Bait is crafted from various materials at crafting tables in the game's major cities. Different types of bait will enable players to catch different types of fish. Crafting recipes for the different kinds of bait can be obtained from Nantuck, the Fishing Association NPC in Mondstadt. The different types of bait are detailed below:

  • Fruit Paste Bait (1x Sunsettia, 1x Wheat) – for Medakas
  • False Worm Bait (1x Slime Condensate, 1x Berry) – for Lunged Stickleback, Betta, Venomspine Fish, Akai Maou and Snowstrider
  • Redrot Bait (1x Dendrobium, 1x Fowl) – for Shirakodai and Angel Fish
  • Fake Fly Bait (1x Sakura Bloom, 1x Horsetail) – for Koi and Pufferfish

Additionally, there will be different types of fish for each location, and they also vary with time. The Fishing Association also has an NPC representative in each of the game's major cities – Nantuck just outside Mondstadt's gates, Jiawei in the Liyue docks, and Kujirai Momji along the Inazuma City shoreline.

Here are the following items available for each NPC, and the fishes needed to exchange for each:

  • Nantuck (Mondstadt)
    • Formula: Redrot Bait (3x Medaka)
    • Formula: False Worm Bait (3x Medaka)
    • Formula: Fake Fly Bait (3x Medaka)
    • Windtangler Fishing Rod (20x Medaka, 20x Aizen Medaka, 20x Venomspine Fish, 20x Tea-Colored Shirakodai)
  • Jiawei (Liyue)
    • Pool of Sapphire Grace (10x Medaka)
    • Wishmaker Fishing Rod (20x Medaka, 20x Sweet-Flower Medaka, 20x Betta, 20x Brown Shirakodai)
  • Kujirai Momji (Inazuma)
    • Narukawa Ukal Fishing Rod (20x Medaka, 20x Glaze Medaka, 20x Lunged Stickleback, 20x Purple Shirakodai)
    • The Catch Polearm Weapon (6x Raimei Angelfish, 20x Golden Koi, 20x Rusty Koi)
    • Ako's Sake Vessel (3x Raimei Angelfish, 10x Pufferfish, 10x Bitter Pufferfish)

Fishing spots are marked with round ripples on the water's surface. Once players have arrived at their desired fishing spot, they can then cast their line. They should take care not to scare the fish away. Then follows the fishing mini-game. Here, players will have to time their reactions to control the tension of their line and reel in the fish. Fundamentally, the mini-game will require good timing skills to ensure a catch.

There will be different types of fish introduced, and each will have its own different difficulty. Caught fish will not only provide ingredients for cooking but are also tradeable for in-game rewards. There will be a new Fishing Association NPC in various locations on the map. Here, players can trade in their catch. They will be exchangeable for new fishing rods that have different effects to help catch even more fish.

Genshin Impact Ornamental Fish

Additionally, there will also be special types of fish called “Ornamental Fish” which players can raise themselves. These ornamental fish spawn at random and are slightly more difficult to catch than their normal counterparts. You will be able to tell them apart by watching them – ornamental fish jump in and out of the water.

In Genshin Impact 2.1, the Serenitea Pot housing system will be adding a new furnishing called the “Pool of Sapphire Grace.” This special pool can house any ornamental fish players catch. You can obtain the Pool of Sapphire Grace's blueprint by exchanging 10 Medaka fish to Jiawei, the Fishing Association NPC for Liyue. After obtaining this, you need to use it by going through the inventory menu. Then, go into your Serenitea Pot and place the pool like any other furnishing.

Walking up to the pool will prompt the “Raise Fish” option, which lets players place up to 5 ornamental fish in their pool. Currently, ornamental fishes are just a cosmetic feature for the housing system, but future updates might bring in more features.
