MiHoYo's finally implementing two-factor authentication (2FA) on Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact hacks and scams lead to 2FA security measure

Many players get victimized by phishing and hacks by unsavory players in the game. Thanks to the game's fans' heavy microtransaction spending, this becomes a serious problem. Some players end up losing a high-worth account where they've spent hundreds to thousands of dollars in-game. Sometimes, players get phished their information and lose control of their accounts. Some other times, they get hacked and just suddenly lose access. Hence, players have been asking miHoYo to add some sort of protection to their accounts. Hence, the implementation of the 2FA feature on Genshin Impact.

2FA will require players to have access to their account's email address. When logging in for the first time on a new device, Genshin Impact won't let you proceed until you input a secret code that they send to your email. This helps add a layer of protection to users, especially if it's only their Genshin Impact account that has been compromised, not their email. 2FA will automatically be implemented to all accounts. Whether or not you've been using your devices for Genshin Impact, 2FA will be required when you try to log in on them for the first time after this update.

This new feature is very timely. Eula's release date is just around the corner, and her banner, Born of the Ocean Swell, arrives in a few hours. A lot of players have been saving up Primogems since March when it was first revealed that she's coming out on Version 1.5. A lot of people will surely be spending during this time, so some extra consumer protection will be welcome.

Still, even with security systems like this, players shouldn't be complacent. Take care of your emails and passwords, folks, and avoid getting phished.
