George R.R. Martin doesn't need to be pestered about Winds of Winter.

The famous author behind Game of Thrones novels realizes that he's a bit behind on the book but ensures us all that it's coming together, according to MeriStation.

Martin was spotted this past weekend at the presentation of Cassandra Clare's new book, Sword Catcher. He was there to help promote his friend, which led to questions geared towards the author about his projects.

Specifically, there's a lot of speculation about Winds of Winter, the sixth part of A Song of Ice and Fire.

George RR Martin on Winds of Winter

“I've been working…I'm 12 years late with Winds of Winter…I'm just going to put it right out there: you guys don't have to pester me about it,” the author said.

It's been twelve years since A Dance with Dragons was released. Fans have become increasingly impatient; however, the author is determined to release the new book when the time is right.

Martin has several other projects and books he's working on, so there's no telling what might come first. He has his writing chops on the sequel to Fire and Blood, which is what The House of Dragon is based on. Plus, there's a Game of Thrones sequel series about Jon Snow.

His blog announced progress. It reads, “I've been working on Winds of Winter. Almost every day. Writing, rewriting, editing, writing some more. Making steady progress. Not as fast I would like…certainly not as fast as YOU would like…but progress nonetheless.”

George R.R. Martin ends with, “It keeps me out of trouble.”
