Eli Manning’s 16-year stint as a player with the New York Giants may have ended last season following his retirement from the NFL, but it appears that quarterback could have a new role with the team soon.

Longtime Giants writer Gary Myers reports that Manning himself told him that he visited the team offices last week not just to say hi to the team’s trainers and staff, but also to talk to owner John Mara. Per the report, the 40-year old expressed an interest to work with the Giants, with mentorship to the players being his most likely role.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo later confirmed the report and added that Manning’s role will likely be an ambassadorship, with some involvement on the football side.

It isn’t surprising to see the two-time Super Bowl champion become interested in mentoring the team’s current players, as he has seen action on the football field with some of them. He has also continued mentoring starting quarterback Daniel Jones even after helping him as a backup in the 2019 season.

Furthermore, it isn’t the first time that the four-time Pro Bowler has said that he wants to be more involved with the team this year, as he pretty much said something similar to ESPN’s Michael Rothstein earlier this month. But going to the team’s offices and meeting with Mara is a significant step into setting this part of his post-retirement plan into motion, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Eli Manning return to the Giants’ in the near future, not as a signal-caller, but likely as an ambassador.
