Kadarius Toney has had a rocky start to his career with the New York Giants. Injuries severely limited his playing time on the hapless squad but he did show some promising flashes when he was available. His start under the regime of new general manager Joe Schoen has also not gotten off on the best foot.
After rumors surfaced that the Giants are looking to trade their second-year wideout, Toney posted the following message on his Instagram story.
The trade rumors come after Toney skipped the Giants' voluntary offseason workouts, which means that he has not yet received the new playbook. Schoen and new head coach Brian Daboll insist that they have been in contact with Toney throughout the offseason. Daboll also stressed that these workouts are voluntary for a reason.
New York's level of interest in dealing Toney away is not yet known. They could simply be doing their due diligence or looking to get rid of him soon. Trading him now would cost them money in terms of dead cap space and leave them without a key weapon for Daniel Jones.
In 10 games, he recorded 420 receiving yards on 39 catches with no touchdowns. Even with such minimal production, the 23-year-old will be a key piece for the Giants moving forward. He has impressive elusiveness in the open field and could be used in a versatile role within Daboll's offense. After picking him 20th overall out of the University of Florida in last year's draft, the new regime would be wise to at least try Kadarius Toney out in the new offense.
