Kelvin Benjamin is back…in free agency. He didn’t even last a full day in training camp with the New York Giants, as he was immediately cut by the team following a heated argument with head coach Joe Judge and general manager David Gettleman on Wednesday.
Whatever Benjamin said during that exchange with Judge and Gettleman were certainly not the last fiery words that came out of his mouth that day. Speaking to NJ Advance Media, Benjamin went on to further criticize Judge, even questioning his ability to bring the Giants success and his coaching style.
“I have a perspective on Joe Judge,” Benjamin said. “He’s not a coach that can ever win a Super Bowl because he sits there and cusses all day. You can tell he’s one-sided about everything. He’s a know-it-all. That’s not how it’s supposed to work. We all can learn from each other. We’re all humans at the end of the day. The true colors will come out.”
Kelvin Benjamin used to be one of the best wide receivers in the NFL way before he landed with the Giants. He posted 16 touchdown receptions in his first two seasons in the league which he spent with the Carolina Panthers. But injuries and troubles with his weight management both contributed to the sharp decline in his relevance in the league. He signed with the Giants for a one-year deal back in May, but not to play as a wideout but as a tight end.
Having burned the bridges with the Giants, Benjamin could only hope that another team could give him another chance.
