The New York Giants selected Evan Engram in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Engram was supposed to be their star tight end. And if we are being honest, he's shown that potential pretty nicely. However, he's also struggled to stay healthy and stay on the field.

That's led to something that Matthew Berry of ESPN.com reported. Berry said that the tight end is a candidate to be traded by the Giants this offseason.

“An inside source says the Giants don't believe Evan Engram can ever stay healthy. The source believes Engram is a candidate to be traded during the upcoming season.”

Engram appeared in 15 games in his rookie season. That was easily the best year of his career. The tight end racked up 64 receptions for 722 yards and six touchdowns.

It went south from there though.

Engram appeared in just 11 games in 2018. That year saw him record 45 receptions for 577 yards and three touchdowns. Then came 2019, where Engram had 44 receptions for 467 yards and three touchdowns in just eight games.

That's a bad trend. The numbers show he can put up big numbers if he stays healthy. But he also hasn't shown he can do that yet.

The Giants seem to be thinking along those lines too. No matter how much potential someone has, they won't ever reach it if they aren't ever healthy. If New York truly doesn't believe Engram will ever stay healthy, there's no reason for them to keep him. Especially considering the return they could get for him.

Engram is still just 25 and has flashed elite potential. Teams would likely love to get their hands on him, so the Giants might get a pretty decent return.

Trading away Engram might seem farfetched, but if all of this is true, it may be much more likely than most people realize.
