LIV Golf is officially official with the league's invitational underway in London. 17 golfers decided to ditch the PGA Tour and join the Saudi league, beginning with the three-day LIV Golf Invitational Series.
As expected, the PGA Tour kept its word and cracked down on players who “decided to turn their backs” on the league. Jay Monahan sent emails to the individuals impacted, suspending them from future tournaments for violating a PGA regulation.
LIV Golf swiftly responded to the announcement, calling it “vindictive.”
“…it deepens the divide between the Tour and its members. It's troubling that the Tour, an organization dedicated to creating opportunities for golfers to play the game, is the entity blocking golfers from playing. This certainly is not the last word on this topic. The era of free agency is beginning as we are proud to have a full field of players joining us in London, and beyond.”

The PGA Tour only allows its golfers to play within the restraints of the league. Meanwhile, LIV Golf is the complete opposite, allowing its players to play when and where they want.
The PGA's strict rules are one reason golfers strayed away, Kevin Na being a great example.
Na told the PGA Tour that he resigned his membership prior to the suspensions. He announced his decision via Twitter last week, explaining, “If I exercise my right to choose where and when I play golf, then I cannot remain a PGA Tour player.”
Along with Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson, Kevin Na is one of 17 golfers impacted by the suspensions.
