After Rory McIlroy won the RBC Canadien Open this past weekend, he took a not-so-subtle shot at Greg Norman, the CEO of LIV Golf, the rival tour that has snatched away some of the PGA's brightest stars. After his RBC win, he made sure that everyone knew it was “one more than Norman”, pointing to his career PGA win totals against The Shark's.

McIlroy, who shot a 67 at the opening round of the US Open, seems to be carrying that motivation to The Country Club. Only, that's not really the case. The PGA star revealed what is truly driving him at this year's US Open, per ESPN.

“It's been eight years since I won a major, and I just want to get my hands on one again,” McIlroy said.

McIlroy has seven top-five finishes at majors since that point, including a second-place finish at this year's Masters after a historic comeback on the tourney's final day.

He followed that up with an incredible start at the PGA Championship before flaming out for an eighth-place finish. McIlroy has put himself in a great position at the US Open, though.

He is currently tied for first at three-under after an opening round that saw him tee up five birdies and an eagle. If McIlroy can finish at The Country Club like he did at the Masters, he'll be hoisting a major trophy for the first time in eight years.
