It has been a tumultuous start to the 2017-18 NBA season for the Memphis Grizzlies. Not only are they wading in the bottom of the Western Conference, but their controversial firing of head coach David Fizdale has raised questions regarding the integrity of All-Star center Marc Gasol.

Amidst all the recent turmoil, Gasol seemingly approached the Grizzlies' showdown with the high-powered Cleveland Cavaliers like any other game. Only afterward, he revealed he had undergone an MRI on his foot earlier in the day, according to Michael Wallace of Grizzlies.com:

Although the severity of the injury is still unknown, it is likely not too serious if Gasol felt he could play without risking any further potential damage. Regardless, it is encouraging to see him push through the pain amidst all the drama surrounding the team.

Despite the loss, Gasol made his presence felt in the 116-111 loss to the formidable Cavs. The foot did not seem to be an issue as he recorded 27 points on an efficient 12-of-23 shooting to go with six rebounds and four assists. He was also extremely active on the defensive end with two blocks and three steals.

Gasol's reputation has taken a hit as of late with the departure of Fizdale. However, gritty performances like these are a reminder of the skill and professionalism he has brought to this franchise for the past decade.
