Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol received a lot of criticism for the emotional statements he made after he was benched in the entire fourth quarter of the game on Sunday. Just a few days after it though, he quickly acknowledged it as an area of opportunity for him, and admitted that he could’ve handled the situation better.

The Spanish international then said, via ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, that he is taking full responsibility with everything he said, and that it shouldn’t have happened in the first place, since it was under his control.

Gasol was forced to watch the entire final period against the Brooklyn Nets on the bench, in favor of his team’s bench players. Their starters were not playing their usual games, and were being blown out by their opponents, which led to then-head coach David Fizdale to give the minutes to his reserves.

The comments he made may not be the best he’s given out in his career, but his most recent one shows the maturity he has, and that he is not afraid to admit when he is wrong. Gasol and the Grizzlies are hoping they can put their troubles all in the past now, as they usher in the start of J.B. Bickerstaff’s head coaching tenure with the team, and that they can end their eight-game losing skid soon.
