Why The Hurricanes Will Cover the Spread

The Hurricanes are having no problem scoring this year, with the top two lines both producing. The top line has Michael Bunting, Teuvo Teravainen, and Martin Necas. Teravainen has four goals this year and an assist, with one of the goals and the assist coming on the power play. Bunting has two goals and three assists this year with a goal and two assists on the power play. Meanwhile, Necas has two goals and four assists this year, with a goal on the power play with two assists.

On the second line, Seth Jarvis leads the way, joined by Stefan Noesen and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Jarvis has four goals this year with three assists. He has been great on the power play this year, with three power-play goals. Meanwhile, Kotkaniemi has scored three times and has four assists to tie for the team lead with seven points. Noesen has been setting up the plays very well, with five assists this year and a goal to add to it.

This year, the Hurricanes are second in the NHL in goals. They are having a lot of success getting shots on goal this year. They have had over 35 shots in four of six games this year while being over 40 twice. The power play has been a huge part of that. They have scored a power-play goal in five of six games while scoring eight times in 30 chances. Still, they are having trouble on the defensive side of things. They are last in the NHL in goals allowed this year. The penalty kill has been an issue. They have allowed nine goals on the power play 28 chances this year.

Antti Raanta is expected to be in goal for the Hurricanes. He is 1-1-0 on the year with a 4.41 goals-against average. In his two starts, he has allowed four goals in each of them. He was pulled from his last start after allowing four goals in 22:38.

Why The Lightning Will Cover the Spread

Nikita Kucherov has been solid this year for the Lightning. He has scored six goals this year with three of them on the power play. Kucherov also has three assists on the season and leads the team with 26 shots this year. He is joined on the top line with Brayden Point. Point has seven assists this year already. Meanwhile, Alex Barre-Boulet has a goal this year on seven shots.

On the second line Brandon Hagel, Nicholas Paul, and Steven Stamkos are putting in a lot of production. Hagel has scored four times this year, while he has two assists on the year. Nicholas Paul has scored three times with all three of them coming on the power play this season. Stamkos has two goals but has also been good on the power play with four assists overall, all coming on the power play.

The power play has been a huge part of the Tampa offense this year. They have scored seven goals this year on the power play in six games. They have done this on 20 chances on the power play this year. Meanwhile, Tampa has been great on the penalty kill. They have not allowed a goal when man-down since the first game of the year, killing off 12 of 13 man-down chances this year.

The Lightning will be sending Jonas Johansson to protect the next this year. He is 2-1-2 on the season with a 3.58 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage. He was solid last time out, saving 48 of 52 shots against him in the game, but taking the loss in overtime. While he has been solid, he has allowed a lot of goals this year. He has allowed three or more goals in all five games he has played so far this season.

Final Hurricanes-Lightning Prediction & Pick

Expect plenty of goals in this game. Carolina is one of the best in scoring in the NHL this year, while Jonas Johansson is letting up three or more goals in every game. Still, Tampa is playing close games this year. They are great on the power play and Carolina will give them plenty of chances. While the power play should tilt the game in favor of the Lightning, they are giving up goals this year that allow teams back into games. Expect a one-goal game in this one, while the over hits with ease. Still, taking Tampa Bay on the money line is not a bad play either.

Final Hurricanes-Lightning Prediction & Pick: Lightning +1.5 (-230) and Over 6.5 (-115)
